No one was injured Thursday morning after a freight train and tractor-trailer collided on the tracks in Woodbine.
Derik Skeens, CSX Railroad terminal manager in Corbin, said as the driver was crossing the tracks on KY 6 at the intersection with KY 26, the trailer got hung on the tracks.
“This isn’t a bad one,” Skeens said. “Everything’s fine.”
The driver of the AYE Enterprises truck, A.Y. Evan, Jr., said he was just driving over the railroad crossing.
As he continued to drive through, he said the trailer suddenly “bottomed out” on the tracks.
“I went to back up, and I could have gotten loose, but then the train came,” he said.
He unhitched the trailer from the truck itself, he said, as the crossing bar came down and the safety lights came on.
“I didn’t know the road was built like this,” Evan said. “If I’d’ve known that I wouldn’t have come this way.”
The road was blocked for more than an hour while CSX employees reviewed the accident. Members of the Woodbine Volunteer Fire and Rescue team were on hand to divert traffic away from the scene.
Kentucky State Police investigated the crash.
