CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

A Corbin man was killed in a single-vehicle crash which left his passenger in serious condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center Sunday.

Bernie R. Kilgore, 48, was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla westbound on Bee Creek Road just after midnight Sunday morning, according to Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public information officer, Post 11.

According to Cochran, Trooper Leslie Moses said Kilgore failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line, struck a utility pole and crashed head-on into a tree.

Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley pronounced Kilgore dead at the scene.

Passenger Charles D. Clark, 21, of Corbin, was airlifted from the scene and taken to the UK Medical Center for treatment.

Neither man wore his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Cochran said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision.

Moses leads the investigation and was assisted at the scene by KSP Sgt. William Elliot, Sgt. Jason Bunch, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, Whitley County EMS and members of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
