One man injured after Meadow Creek Road wreck

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

One man was injured Monday after the Ford Mustang he was driving collided with a concrete wall of a bridge on Meadow Creek Road.

James Brown, 32, was taken to Baptist Health Corbin after the crash with what appeared to be several injuries.

According to Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Prewitt, Brown was “in and out” of consciousness while he was extricated from the vehicle.

“He talked to rescuers, then he’d go back to sleep again,” Prewitt said.

He added that an investigation revealed an eyewitness, who said it appeared something had happened mechanically with the car.

“The witness was coming from the opposite direction,” Prewitt explained. “(It) started over the hill, but the brakes locked or something — he lost control and started fishtailing.”

He added there was another vehicle in front of Brown, and he swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting that car — but when Brown saw the witness driving toward him, this time he swerved into the ditch, and ultimately, the bottom of the bridge.

Crews from the Whitley County EMS and Woodbine Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad were also on hand to assist in getting the victim removed from the car.

The crash happened on the small bridge going over Meadow Creek, just passed the Meadow Creek Baptist Church on KY 1064 (Meadow Creek Road). Pieces of the car crossed the creek onto private property.

Brown’s condition was unknown at press time, but Prewitt did say no charges will be filed in this crash.
