7-year-old girl groped while at park, man arrested

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

A London man was arrested Saturday after he reportedly groped a 7-year-old girl while at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, according to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Bryan R. Eidson, 22, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse (victim under 12 years-old) for the incident, which was witnessed by two other people, including the girl’s mother.

About 4 p.m., the girl was lying face down on a park bench when a man wearing blue jogging shorts and a Columbia-style winter jacket approached and grabbed the girl’s buttocks and inner-thigh area, Harrell said.

When a witness confronted Eidson, he smiled and walked away. Harrell said.

Once at the park, Deputy Bo Harris was shown a photograph of the suspect, which had been taken with a cellphone. Harris and Court Security Officer Jennifer Shelley, who was with Harris at the time, searched nearby trails and found a man matching the description. He was asked to walk back to the Visitor’s Center, where the mother, victim and another witness identified him as the person who had groped the child.

Eidson was arrested and jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center.
