Firefighters were called to a fire Wednesday at the southern Whitley County home of a man who was found dead in the woods in January.

Pleasant View Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched about 8:45 p.m. to the mobile home at 8051 Hwy. 25W South, according to Chief Thomas Manning.

It was the address of William “Dan” Oakes Sr., who was reported missing in January and who was found dead in a wooded area around KY 1804. No foul play is suspected in Oakes’ death and autopsy results are still pending.

When the first firefighter arrived, smoke was seen coming from the mobile home. When the first truck arrived, Manning said flames were visible.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. As of about 10 p.m, they remained at the home extinguishing hot spots.

Nobody was living in the mobile home at the time of Wednesday’s fire. Manning said the cause isn’t known, so a Kentucky State Police arson investigator was called to the scene.

No firefighters were injured, Manning said.
