State Police car in Whitley crash

Involved in two-vehicle wreck at I-75 exit

CORBIN — By LeeAnn Cain / Staff Writer

A Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer was involved in a two-car crash at the Interstate 75 Goldbug exit Tuesday afternoon, according to Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Public Affairs Officer Steven Douglas.

On-duty Officer Duffy Sutton, 50, was turning left onto U.S. 25W after exiting from the northbound lanes of the interstate about 2:30 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound 2010 Ford Explorer driven by Sandra Jones, 58, of Corbin. The two vehicles came to rest near an on-ramp.

According to Douglas, Sutton did not see the oncoming vehicle.

Drugs and alcohol are not expected to be factors in the crash.

Jones complained of knee and chest pain and was transported privately to Baptist Health Corbin. Sutton received minor scrapes and denied on-scene medical attention.

The northbound lane of Highway 25W was closed while emergency responders worked.

The crash is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Sgt. Greg Reams. Assisting at the scene were Kentucky State Police, Whitley County EMS, Goldbug Fire Department, Williamsburg Fire and Rescue, Williamsburg Police Department and the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.
