Corbin man remains at large, police searching

By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer

The Corbin Police Department is searching for a local man, sought for assaulting another man with a knife last weekend during a dispute.

They’re looking for Junior Smith, 50, of Corbin. A warrant has been issued for Smith’s arrest by the police, charging him with second-degree assault.

The incident happened Saturday around 11:36 p.m at an apartment complex at 604 1/2 5th Street in Corbin, where Robert Lawson lived.

According to Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, witnesses reported Lawson attempted to get between Smith and another resident, Sara Miller, during an argument in which Miller reported she had been slapped by Smith. Lawson attempted to get between the two and, at that point, Smith stabbed Lawson in the abdomen with a pocket knife.

Smith fled the scene before officers arrived.

If you have any knowledge of Smith’s whereabouts, call Corbin Police at 528-1122.
