ATV crash injures two Williamsburg men

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

Two Williamsburg men were injured late Wednesday after an ATV crash in Whitley County.

According to Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Bo Harris, around 9:30 p.m. he and CSO Jennifer Shelley responded to the crash on Long Bottom Road near Canadatown.

He said Jon Shupe, 18, was driving a green Grizzly 660 All-Terrain Vehicle on Long Bottom with passenger Dylan Abner, 21.

“Jon Shupe (said) that they had recently had work done to the ATV on the drive shaft,” Harris said. “As they were going down the highway, he felt the front left tire give and collapse — and began pulling to the left.”

That’s when the crash began to happen, Harris said.

“He tried to pull off in the grass, lost control, and struck a tree,” the deputy explained, adding that Shupe was thrown from the 4-wheeler and Abner struck the tree.

Harris said Shupe was treated by Whitley County EMS and transported to Baptist Health Corbin for non-life threatening injuries. Abner was airlifted by Air Methods to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee for multiple injuries.

His updated condition was not known at press time.

Harris said that no charges are expected to be filed in this crash.

Harris and Shelley were assisted at the scene by Detective John Hill, Deputy Joe Prewitt and the Woodbine Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
