Another busy year for Corbin Police

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Corbin Police Chief David Campbell released the department’s statistics for the 2013 calendar year.

And it’s been another busy year for the police force.

The report shows the department answered 20,247 calls for service last year — up from 17,394 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) calls in 2012.

There were nearly 100 less crashes in 2013 compared to 2012 — Campbell said 646 crashes were investigated by officers in 2013. Of those crashes, 538 were non-injury crashes while the remaining 108 were crashes with injured victims.

In 2012, the Corbin Police Department responded to and investigated 744 crashes, including those with injured victims, those with no injuries and hit and run crashes.

Corbin Police officers have also been vigilant in issuing traffic citations. In 2012, officers wrote 2,699 citations.

Last year the department wrote a total of 3,052 citations — 1,857 of which were for arrests.

The number of those arrested for driving under the influence also slightly rose during 2013 — officers jailed 122 for DUI. In 2012, Corbin officers arrested 113 suspects for DUI.

The number of cases worked by the department also slightly rose during 2013 — officers worked a total of 636 cases.

In 2012, the Corbin Police Department worked 621 cases.

In 2011, the police department responded to 16,870 calls. Those calls that year included 758 vehicle crashes, 625 criminal cases and 2,341 citations issued.

The Corbin Police Department releases these statistics annually.
