23 arrested in Knox Co. drug roundup

15 more people may get nabbed within the next week

Knox County Sheriff John Pickard, Knox County Chief Deputy Derek Eubanks and around 10 deputies spent the early morning hours of Friday rounding up 23 drug users and sellers.

The investigation began in May and was headed by Eubanks. The department together issued and served arrest warrants for the 23 criminals. Around five of which weren’t supposed to be arrested in the first place, but when deputies found methamphetamine precursors at a home, a group of unexpected suspects were additionally arrested.

One woman, Zola Faye Elliot, was arrested for cursing the media, according to Sheriff Pickard

Elliot’s brother, Joe Elliot, was being arrested for previous drug possession when she began cursing the media and police.

When Deputy Chad Gregory asked her to step away, she refused and was handcuffed. She was later charged with disorderly conduct.

All arrests were made in northern Knox County areas including Gray, Hazel Fork Road area, Kay Jay and Moore Hill.

Pickard said the department has already started to investigate for the next roundup, which may net 15 people within the next week.

All suspects were taken to Knox County Detention Center except for one who is already held at a Clay County jail.

Those arrested and charged include:

• Joseph Burley Elliot, 18, of Gray, trafficking in marijuana.

• Richard W. McAdams, 25, of Corbin, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Fred Lee Phipps, 30, of Gray, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Justin Lee Mills, 24, of Gray, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• James Edward Poe, 24, of Gray, first-degree trafficking controlled substance.

• Kenneth Ray Helton, 45, of Gray, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Shane M. Cope, 34, of Gray, first-degree, two counts trafficking in a controlled substance, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Lonnie J. Wyatt, 29, of Gray, first-degree, two counts trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Jason Edward Jones, 30, of Gray, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Teddy Smallwood Jr., 32, of Gray, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Anthony Robert Skaggs, 24, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• David Earl Lowe, 29, Gray, trafficking in marijuana

• Dustin N. Walters, 27, of Gray, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, unlawful possession of meth precursor.

• Robert Andrew Weist, 30, of Gray, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Robert Brandon Mills, 27, of Corbin, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, unlawful possession of meth precursors.

• Jimmy D. Lewis, 25, of Gray, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Eugene Jenkins, 38, of Gray, second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

• Kenneth Warren Smallwood, of Corbin, unlawful possession of meth precursors.

• Zola Faye Elliot, of Gray, disorderly conduct.

Others arrested on pending charges include Eliza F. Oaks, Michelle Lee Jones, Edith Marie Jones, said Deputy Eubanks.
