POLICE ROUNDUP: Flies, roaches, feces in home with three children

TRI-COUNTY — Three children were found in a home filled with trash, animal feces, flies and roaches, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

Now, two people are facing three counts each of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Deputies Daniel Grigsby and Robbie Grimes along with Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter arrived at the home six miles north of London Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. The home visit came after an investigation between the Laurel County Sheriff’s office and Kentucky Department of Social Services regarding an alleged complaint of unfit living conditions with children in the home.

Deputies noted the kitchen had dirty clothes, trash and rotten food on the floor. There was also dried dog feces on the floor.

Dirty dishes had rotten food and mold forming on them. The house was full of flies and roaches, Root said.

Grigsby said the smell in the residence was nauseating and the house was the worst he had ever been in.

In the house were two parents and three children - ages four, six and seven.

The two parents, Rebecca Brown, 30, and Michael Brown, 35, both of East Bernstadt, were arrested. They are facing charges for endangering the welfare of a minor.

Rebecca and Michael Brown were jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center. The three children were placed with neighbors.
