Woman charged after pills found in hospital
A woman hospitalized in December who was allegedly found to be in possession of prescription medication by hospital staff has now been charged.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Deputy James Sizemore charged Vicie A. Estep, 41, of London, with third-degree possession of a controlled substance and prescription controlled substances not in their proper container, first offense.
Estep was charged Tuesday following an investigation conducted by Sizemore and Deputy John Inman regarding the discovery of prescription tablets allegedly found in a metal container in Estep’s possession Dec. 8 at Saint Joseph London in the OB ward.
Allegedly, she was there as a patient when the prescription pills were found, and staff there alerted the sheriff’s office, Root said.
She allegedly contended she had a prescription for the tablets, but was never able to produce that prescription, the sheriff said. She remains jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center on unrelated charges of theft by unlawful taking property valued at less than $500.
Her newest charges have her scheduled with a court date on Jan. 31.
