Demolition of downtown building begins

It’s the beginning of the end for this landmark building located in downtown Williamsburg — demolition for this long-standing building began Tuesday. Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said that while they wanted to preserve the building, it was just too far gone to repair. Owned by the Whitley County Public Library, the building should be completely removed from the site during the next several weeks. Harrison said the roads will most likely not be closed during this process, but demolition crews did install temporary fencing along the sidewalk.
