W’burg man wanted in connection with thefts

Williamsburg Police seek the public’s help in locating a man wanted for questioning involving several copper thefts during the weekend.

Police continue their search for 24-year-old Rocky Allen Hayes, of Williamsburg, in connection with these thefts.

According to Police Chief Wayne Bird, the copper reported stolen has a value of several thousand dollars — and as of Monday night, Bird said law enforcement had yet to catch up with the man.

Hayes is 6 foot, 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 225 pounds. His hair is dark brown, and his eyes are also brown.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Hayes, they are urged to call the Williamsburg Police Department at 606-549-6038 or 606-549-6087.

Man arrested after 200 pills sold to source

A Williamsburg man remains jailed at the Whitley County Detention Center under a $10,000 cash bond after his arrest Friday.

Williamsburg Police allege David Lee Davis, 42, sold 20 Roxicet tablets at 30 milligrams apiece for $900 — to “a cooperating source,” according to police.

He now faces charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

WPD Detective Bobby Freeman leads the investigation and had assistance from Chief Wayne Bird, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt and Officer Brandon White.

Bird said this case will likely be heard by the grand jury in January.

Crash leads to DUI arrest

An investigation into a single-vehicle car crash led to the arrest of a London woman Sunday.

According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Sherry L. Shoupe, 46, was driving a green Mercury Cougar when she reportedly crashed on Poplar Hollow Road around 7 p.m.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst was dispatched to the crash site, and when he arrived he found the Mercury in the ditch.

Root said Ashurst also noted “a powdery-looking substance around her nostrils,” and that she appeared to be under the influence.

Root added that Shoupe allegedly told Ashurst that she had snorted Percocets before driving her vehicle.

Shoupe was arrested and jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center and released the next day on a $2,500 surety bond. She faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, as well as other traffic charges.
