Special taxing districts in the Tri-County

There are several special taxing districts listed in the Tri-County area.

Knox County has 10 special taxing districts. Those districts and their actual revenues include: Artemus Fire Protection Taxing District, $28,883; Barbourville Tourism Commission, $290,520; the Cumberland Valley Regional Housing Authority, actual revenues not provided; Kentucky Communities Economic Opportunity Council (KCEOC), $18,984,042; Knox County Ambulance Taxing District, actual revenues not provided; Knox County Cooperative Extension District, $401,615; Knox County Library District, $771,421; Knox County Public Health Taxing District, $496,450; Knox County Soil Conservation District, $225,593; and last, the Knox County Utility Commission-Water District, $1,537,448.

Laurel County lists 14 special taxing districts. Those districts and their actual revenues include: Bush Fire Taxing District, $92,784; College Park City/County Industrial Authority, actual revenues not provided; Cumberland Valley Area Development District, $2,346,098; East Laurel Water District, $2,106,143; Laurel County Cooperative Extension District, $611,375; Laurel County Public Health Taxing District, $1,177,084; Laurel County Public Library District, $2,808,800; Laurel County Soil and Water Conservation District, $98,596; Laurel County Water District #2, $2,213,104; London-Corbin Airport Board, $1,041,532; London-Laurel County Industrial Development Authority, $584,050; London-Laurel County Tourism Commission, $420,800; Pine Mountain Regional Industrial Development Authority, $98,335; and last, the Wood Creek Water District, $4,382,953.

Whitley County has 13 special taxing districts. Those districts and their actual revenues include: Corbin Industrial Development Commission, $192,688; Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission, actual revenues not provided; Corbin Tri-County Industrial Development Authority, $127,863; Cumberland Falls Highway Water District, $1,525,000; Southeast Kentucky Regional Industrial Authority, $82,985; Whitley County Conservation District, $161,264; Whitley County Extension District, $849,714; Whitley County Public Health District, $590,219; Whitley County Public Library, $690,778; Whitley County Water District, actual revenue not provided; Williamsburg-Whitley County Airport Board, actual revenues not provided; Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Commission, $653,863; and last, Williamsburg-Whitley County Industrial Development Commission, actual revenues not provided.

There are additional special districts operating in each of the three area counties, but those districts are headquartered in other counties.

In Whitley County, other taxing districts in operation are the Bell/Whitley Community Action Agency, which operates in Bell County; the Cumberland Valley Area Development District, headquartered in Laurel County; and the Cumberland Valley Regional Housing Authority, which operates in Knox County.

In Laurel County, other taxing districts in operation are the Daniel Boone Community Action Agency, Inc. headquartered in Clay County; Pennyrile Allied Community Services, operating in Christian County; and the Southeast Kentucky Regional Industrial Authority based in Whitley County.

In Knox County, other taxing districts in operation are the Corbin Industrial Development Commission,  the Corbin Tri-County Industrial Development Authority and the Southeast Kentucky Regional Industrial Authority, all three based in Whitley County; the Cumberland Valley Area Development District and the Laurel County Water District #2, both headquartered in Laurel County; and last, the Elk Hill Regional Industrial Authority, based in Clay County.

There are special taxing districts not based in the Tri-County region but operating within the county boundaries. Here are those agencies with their actual revenues: Bell/Whitley County Community Action Agency, actual revenues not provided; Elk Hill Regional Industrial Authority, $33,573; Daniel Boone Community Action Agency, Inc., $12,753,135; and Pennyrile Allied Community Services, $19,183,802.
