BARBOURVILLE — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Knox man jailed for shoplifting

A Knox County man remains jailed in the Knox County Detention Center after his arrest for shoplifting.

George D. Jones, of Gray, faces charges of theft by unlawful taking under $300 and falsely reporting an incident, according to London Police Chief Stewart Walker. He also had warrants outstanding from Whitley and Knox counties. Whitley wants him for failure to maintain insurance, and Knox wants him for manufacturing methamphetamines.

On Sunday, London Police Department responded to Walmart Loss Prevention.

The Walmart crew had observed a suspect conceal merchandise and leave the store without paying.

Loss Prevention Associate Roger Jones followed the suspect from the store, and confronted the man in the parking lot.

The suspect ran toward the London Shopping Center.

With a description of the suspect in hand, officers canvassed the area. While checking the area of the London Shopping Center, a Daddy O’s Frozen Yogurt employee flagged officers down, telling them a man matching the description of the suspect had entered the store’s restroom.

Officers found the hidden suspect, and Jones identified him as the same shoplifter from Walmart.

During the investigation, a call came into the London Laurel 911 Communications Center. The caller said the shoplifter had fled in a black Chevrolet truck, however, it was learned the call came from the suspect’s cell phone.

London police arrest screaming man

London Police officers were dispatched to the Wildwood Apartments to investigate a possible domestic dispute.

Officers found Joshua B. Barger, 23, of Corbin, standing in the breezeway. He was screaming and cursing, causing a disturbance. Officers could smell alcohol, and observed Barger was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech.

When officers attempted to arrest Barger, he refused to comply with their commands.

He was arrested and jailed in the Laurel County Detention Center. He faces charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
