A Corbin man has been arrested in connection with the Monday burglary of a convenience store, according to Corbin Police Public Affairs Officer Maj. Rob Jones.

Gary Wright, 27, was arrested after police received a tip that the suspect was staying with a woman on 17th Street. Police went to the home and found Wright, who was taken to the police station and questioned about the burglary.

Wright was formally charged with third-degree burglary. He was jailed late Tuesday in the Whitley County Detention Center.

The crime occurred about 3:30 a.m. Monday at 2 Dawg’s Market, located at 105 18th Street near Peach Corner.

“He took some merchandise like beer, cigarettes and other stuff that he could pack, and broke the front door and left. It was your classic ‘Smash and Grab,’” Jones said.

The store’s owners told police they knew the man and thought his name is “Gary.” They told police he is a regular in their store and they believed he lived in the area since they often saw him walking toward the 15th Street - 17th Street area after he would leave the store.

Officers assisting in the arrest were Jones, Capt. Coy Wilson, Lt.Rusty Hedrick, Lt. Rick Baker and Patrolman Arron Peace.
