10-year sentence handed to man accused of sex crimes

CORBIN — By John L. Ross / Staff Writer

A Barbourville man indicted more than two years ago on a 56-count indictment charging him with a host of sex crimes allegedly committed in the 1980s has now officially been sentenced.

George Allen Dorsey, AKA George Lyttle, 58, entered into a plea agreement in March in Knox County Circuit Court before Judge Tom Jensen -- who then sentenced him Friday.

Dorsey appeared handcuffed and shackled with his public defender, Matt Butler, who was filling in for Dorsey’s regular attorney. Court records indicate public defender Deaidra Douglas represents Dorsey.

He was indicted in January 2012 on 12 counts of first-degree rape, 16 counts of sodomy and 28 related charges.

On Friday, he was sentenced to 10 years as per the plea agreement -- Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Danny Evans said he would be eligible for parole after serving 50 percent of his sentence.

That plea agreement led Dorsey to plead guilty to two counts on the multi-count indictment — two charges of first-degree rape.

The remaining charges will then be dismissed.

He committed these crimes from around January through December of 1987 — the victim was a minor at the time.

After Jensen reviewed the parameters of the plea agreement with Dorsey, he sentenced the man, as per the agreement, to two 10-year sentences.

Those sentences — 10 years for each count — will be served concurrently.

He was remanded into custody to begin serving his sentence.
