CORBIN — The Corbin Lady Redhounds outhit visiting Somerset 10-9 Friday, but it was the Lady Briar Jumpers who came out on top in the scoring column, picking up the 5-2 win.

Junior hurler Hannah Hart was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs (only two earned) on nine hits, while striking out seven and walking five through seven innings.

Corbin fell behind early thanks to a combination of errors and passed balls in the first inning. After the loss, Corbin head coach Chris Hart said he was proud of the way his team never stopped battling, but admitted that in the end the errors are what cost his team the most.

“We made a couple of errors in the first inning that really hurt us,” Hart said. “They scored three runs on two errors and a couple of passed balls, so we were in a hole from the start.

“We were forced to try and play catch-up the rest of the night and we just couldn’t generate any runs,” he added. “But I give my kids credit for staying in the game and trying to battle back, we just couldn’t get it done.”

Corbin managed to trim the gap in the third inning when Kelly Farley singled to bring Kaitley Jackson around from second to make the score 3-1.

The Lady Redhounds trimmed the gap to 3-2 in the fifth inning when Sydney Reynolds connected for a sacrifice fly to score Hannah Hart from third base. Hart singled to start the inning and advanced after Farley singled and Callie Schoolcraft reached on a walk to load the bases.
