Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash

Laurel man charged with manslaughter, leaving scene, driving on suspend DUI license

LAUREL COUNTY — The driver of a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Laurel County last week has been arrested.

Anthony Raymond, 51, of London, was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident — failure to stop and render aid, and driving on a DUI suspended license.

He's jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center in London.

Raymond has been jailed there since May 9 on an unrelated charge of trafficking in methamphetamine.

The arrest and charges came about a week after a crash involving the car he was driving and a motorcycle driven by a Lexington man.

It occurred Wednesday, May 7, about 6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 25 and Hazel Patch Road, north of London.

In the crash, a purple Dodge Neon driven by Raymond apparently pulled out from Hazel Patch Road to go south on U.S. 25, pulling into the path of a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Scott.

Scott's motorcycle was traveling north on U.S. 25 when the crash happened.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, Raymond reportedly ran from the scene, traveling down Hazel Patch Road before going into the woods.

Scott, 71, received fatal injuries.

Raymond's arrest came as the result of what Laurel County Sheriff John Root reported "an extensive joint investigation" by London City Police Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards — who reconstructed the crash — as well as Laurel Sheriff's Detectives Brad Mitchell, Jason Back and James Sizemore.
