Health dept. moving plans postponed

Unexpected delays in construction have forced the Whitley County Health Department to postpone plans to move to its new Penny Lane location this week.

“We just found out (Monday) night,” said Gail Timperio, WCHD director. “And we now cannot move in Thursday and Friday.”

The original plan was to close the offices the last two business days of this week to allow the move to take place — then the new department would open its doors Nov. 12.

Timperio said they had even sent letters and placed public service announcements so the word would get to patients about the impending move.

But then, the delay came into the picture.

“We ran into tile problems,” Timperio explained. “And it would be easier on the contractor without us trying to move in there — we would’ve been in the way.”

That means for now, the health department will remain open in its present location.

“It’s disappointing — but we’ll soldier on,” Timperio said.

As far as scheduling a date for the move, she has no plans ready — yet.

“They’ll need to get the tile replaced or redone and allow (time) for that to dry,” Timperio said. “So it’s up in the air right now.”

So for the time, she said everything is business as usual at the North Second Street location in downtown Williamsburg.

“We’ve waited this long — we can wait a little longer,” Timperio said. “Once we’re moved in and situated, we will have an open house.”

She added that the public would be invited to the open house, once a date is made official.

The health department is slated to be open Thursday and Friday this week at normal hours — they will be closed Monday for Veterans Day.
