Times-Tribune Staff Report
Whitley County Middle School was placed on lockdown today (Tuesday) morning after the principal was told there may be a weapon in the school, according to district officials.
Principal Stuart Conlin received the report about 8:20 a.m. this morning. The school was locked down, then Conlin and School Resource Officer David Lennon went to the room to locate the student who reportedly had the gun.
The student was taken to the office and searched. An unloaded airsoft gun was found.
Officials said the entire incident lasted less than 10 minutes and at no time were any students or staff in danger.
In a press release, Superintendent Scott Paul said, “I would like to thank Mr. Conlin and Officer Lennon for their quick response to this unfortunate event. We have procedures in place to handle situations such as this and they followed the procedures to the letter. As a result the entire event was over in less than 10 minutes, and school was able to resume as normal.”
