Car chase ends in man’s arrest

Corbin man jailed, charged on six counts

CORBIN — By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer

A domestic disturbance led to a short vehicle pursuit in the early hours of Wednesday morning. That led to a Corbin man’s arrest on DUI and several other charges.

David Randle, 27, of Corbin, was charged with DUI, third offense (aggravating circumstances), first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding 26 miles over the speed limit, having no tail lights on his vehicle and resisting arrest.

He’s jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center in Williamsburg.

The incident happened Wednesday at 1:46 a.m.

According to Maj. Rob Jones of the Corbin Police Department, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the city’s south end, at the Exit 25 interchange of I-75 and the Cumberland Falls Highway.

Police were arriving at the scene when a 1999 Buick Century driven by Randle — the vehicle that was reported to be involved in the dispute — passed them at around 70 miles per hour.

Officers chased the car and attempted to stop it, but Randle refused to stop. He led police on a short pursuit down Cumberland Falls Highway and Scuffletown Road which lasted just under one-and-a-half miles. The pursuit ended near the intersection of Scuffletown Road and 5th Street Road.

When the chase was over, Randle refused all commands from officers to leave his car and had to be physically removed from the vehicle. He did consent to a preliminary breath test at police headquarters with the test results showing a .124 — well over the legal limit of .08.

K9 Officer Steve Meadors is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Capt. Coy Wilson and Officer Lonnie Sawyers.
