A scary moment for a young child ended up with a happy ending Wednesday morning, after she was found safe and sound.

According to Public Affairs Officer Rob Jones, the Corbin Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. to a report of a lost female toddler. They found her wandering inside the tennis courts at Corbin High School, alone and shoeless in Wednesday’s freezing temperatures.

An assistant from the Combs and Combs dental office on the Cumberland Falls Highway rescued the little girl, estimated to be around two years old. The assistant took the toddler to the dental office, after the girl was warmed up, given fresh clothing and was fed a warm meal.

After police canvassed the neighborhood, they were able to find the little girl’s foster parents, and she was returned to them.

Sgt. Rick Baker and Ptl. Mike Bisschop assisted in finding the child.

Police add Benchmark Family Services and state Social Services are conducting their own investigation on the child’s safety.
