CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park has won several awards in “Kentucky Living’s 2014 Best in Kentucky” contest.

Cumberland Falls won best overnight stay, best scenic view, second place for weekend getaway, and third place for extreme adventure/sport location.

The reader write-in contest covered a variety of topics, from favorite restaurants to best vacation places.

According to the magazine, Cumberland Falls won first in best overnight stay due to its 125-foot waterfall known as “the Niagra of the South” and the opportunity to view a moonbow on certain nights; Cumberland Falls is the only place in the Western hemisphere to have a moonbow. The magazine also cites scenic hiking trails, programs and the new gem mining feature at the park.

Cumberland Falls won first in best scenic view due to its waterfall and moonbow as well as the “rugged and thickly forested landscape.”
