Saint Joseph Cancer Center expands

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Saint Joseph Cancer Center, part of KentuckyOne Health, has expanded access to cancer services to Whitley County patients by adding Commonwealth Cancer in Corbin as a site to receive care.

Services at Saint Joseph Cancer Center in Corbin will be an extension of Saint Joseph London.

The realignment of hematology and medical oncology services at Commonwealth Cancer Center in Corbin is effective today.

In addition to a new name, the office will now be at 1708 Forest Drive, Suite 101, in Corbin.

While the hematology and medical oncology services will have a new name, there will be no change in physicians or staff. Mridula Vinjamuri, M.D., Thomas Baeker, M.D. and Aruna Arekapudi, M.D., will continue leading patient care at the center. All three physicians are board-certified in medical oncology and hematology.

“It is our goal to continue the exceptional level of quality and service that patients deserve as we transition the hematology and medical oncology services to Saint Joseph Cancer Center,” said Mindy McKinley, regional director of Saint Joseph Cancer Center.  “We are pleased to welcome the physicians and staff of Commonwealth Cancer Center to the KentuckyOne family.”

Commonwealth Cancer Center in Corbin has served approximately 4,000 patients since opening in 1998. The Center was the culmination of a vision to provide a regional location for complete cancer care. The model of integrating multi-modality care and the administration of cancer treatment options sacrifices none of the advantages of care in larger or academic centers.

The Center’s team of cancer physicians, nurses and therapists will continue to provide comprehensive cancer care, including the chance to participate in clinical trials for patients in the Corbin and Whitley County area.

Days and hours of operation, as well as scheduling, will remain the same. Hours of operation at the center are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The facility phone number is also the same, 606-528-5000.

“We believe in patient empowerment so we offer a multidisciplinary approach with chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and pain management,” said Mridula Vinjamuri, M.D. “We bring experience as the only cancer center serving Corbin and surrounding areas for 15 years.”

Saint Joseph Cancer Center is the premiere cancer treatment center in Kentucky. It offers comprehensive patient care using the most advanced equipment available, as well as support groups for patients and their loved ones.

The Corbin location will join Saint Joseph Cancer Center facilities at Saint Joseph Berea, Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph London, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and Flaget Memorial Hospital.
