CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Complaints concerning a domestic situation led to a drug arrest Friday.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter and Deputy Robbie Grimes were dispatched to a residence on Level Green Road south of London.

They were sent to investigate a domestic violence report.

In the course of their investigation, Poynter and Grimes uncovered information concerning an indoor marijuana-growing operation located in a nearby mobile home.

That discovery brought Detective Jason Back to the scene. Inside the residence, law enforcement found 20 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. Along with the plants, they seized two ounces of “processed” marijuana, lights, fans, potting soil, a rifle with scope, scales and an undetermined amount of cash.

Back arrested 39-year-old Donnie R. Rutherford, of Keavy. He faces charges of cultivating five plants or more of marijuana, first offense, and trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces, first offense.
