An armed robbery suspect who turned himself in at the Knox County Detention Center Christmas Eve is set to appear in Laurel County District Court today.
Christopher Disney, 33, of Gray, remains in the Laurel County Correctional Center under a pending $50,000 cash bond.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root asked for the public’s help in locating Disney.
On Dec. 19, an unknown man entered the A & B Quick Stop off KY 3434 near East Bernstadt. Root said the man, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, robbed the unidentified male clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash.
The armed robber then fled the parking lot driving a dark-colored car.
The investigation led deputies to surveillance video taken by security cameras at the store. A picture of the suspect was released in the hopes the public would lend a hand.
Root said a tip on Dec. 21 led Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Daryl Zanet, Knox Deputy Roy Gambrel and Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore to a location near Sam Parker Road in Knox County.
There, deputies discovered the gun allegedly used in the robbery. The suspect continued to be on the run and was considered armed and dangerous.
He turned himself in to Gambrel, where he was held until Laurel Deputy Josh Scott arrived to transport him back to London.
Zanet arrested him there.
Disney faces first-degree robbery charges.
