Two injured in fire near London

CORBIN — By Charlotte Underwood / Staff Writer

Two people were injured in a mobile home fire on Blakely Road, off of Hwy. 363, Tuesday, according to Keavy Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Dodd.

The Keavy Fire Department received the call about the fire around 5:08 p.m. and responded with three fire trucks and 12 firefighters. They left the scene around 7:49 p.m.

Molly Coots and her son, Jimmy Coots, both sustained smoke inhalation during the fire, according to Dodd.

Molly Coots was taken to Saint Joseph London hospital, while Jimmy Coots was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, where he’s currently listed in “serious, but stable condition.” Molly Coots has since been discharged, according to hospital officials.

According to Dodd, the home is a total loss and firefighters have no knowledge of what started the fire, only that it seemed to have started in the back corner bedroom.

“Basically we don’t know what started it, but we are pretty sure it started in the back bedroom because that was the worst burn area,” Dodd said, adding that when firefighters first arrived at the residence, flames were coming out of the back of the mobile home.

“They quickly spread throughout the trailer and there was fire from one end to the other,” Dodd said.
