CORBIN — By LeeAnn Cain / Staff Writer

A van crashed into the side of Liquor Mart in Corbin Thursday afternoon, shattering a window and destroying several cases of beer.

Elise Hoskins, 86, pulled into the Liquor Mart parking lot in her 2001 Dodge Venture when she reportedly blacked out and hit the gas instead of the break, according to Corbin Police Patrolman Kyle Gray.

In the vehicle with Hoskins was her son, Bobby Mills, whose age wasn’t given. Neither of the vehicle’s occupants were injured. Hoskins claimed that this was her first car crash, and attributed her blackout to a heart condition.

According to store Manager Tyler Lewis, the impact of the van “rocked the store.” He said he was in the back filling out orders when he saw the beer wall “explode.” Property owner Dale Chaffin believes the property damage could “easily” reach $10,000.

No drugs or alcohol were suspected to be factors in the crash, according to Gray.

Assisting Gray was the Corbin Fire Department and Knox County EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
