Times-Tribune Staff Report
Laurel County residents are being encouraged to take precautions following a series of car break-ins, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.
The alert comes after three vehicles in the southern part of the county along American Greeting Road were broken into overnight Sunday. Windows were broken in each of the cars and items were stolen.
Root said people should remove valuables from their parked cars, which should then be locked. He encouraged the use of outside lighting, particularly where cars are parked. Motion detector lights are inexpensive and easy to install, he added.
As a result of the thefts, Root said his deputies will continue to patrol Laurel County roads looking for thieves and patrols in southern Laurel County will be increased.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the sheriff’s office.
