Seven arrested in Laurel drug roundup

Seven Laurel County residents were arrested Monday in a drug roundup, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

The roundup, dubbed “Operation Drug-Free Thanksgiving,” began about 8 a.m. and followed a three-month-long undercover investigation by Detective Jason Back and Deputy James Sizemore.

Those arrested were:

—Roger Vaughn, 55, of East Bernstadt, charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine).

—Curtis Vaughn, 57, of Pittsburg, charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (opiates).

—Freddie C. Vaughn, 64, of East Bernstadt, charged with second-degree failure to appear in court on possession of a controlled substance, first offense.

—Billy C. Hurley Jr., 49, of East Bernstadt, charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense (methamphetamine).

—Michael R. Wood, 36, of East Bernstadt, charged with a warrant for receiving stolen property.

—David Honeycutt, 53, of London, charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (opiates).

—Cindy Gibson, 39, of East Bernstadt, charged with second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense.

Assisting in the arrests were Root, Capt. Rodney Van Zant, Lt. Chuck Johnson, Sgt. E.R. Rudder, Sgt. Phil Barnard, Deputy Josh Scott, Sizemore and Back.

Investigations into illegal drug activities continues, Root said.
