Drug dealer jailed

Charged with trafficking, possession of meth

CORBIN — By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer

A Whitley County man was arrested Monday at a Corbin motel and charged with trafficking and possessing meth.

Jerry Owens, 61, of Williamsburg, was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first offense; and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), second offense.

He was jailed at the Knox County Detention Center in Barbourville.

Corbin Police Maj. Rob Jones reported Owens’ arrest came after police were able to purchase meth from him at the Economy Inn on Main Street, with the help of a confidential informant.

Owens was able to flee the scene but was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Main and 18th streets by Capt. Coy Wilson. With the help of Wilson’s K-9 dog Luka, he was able to locate a baggie of meth hidden in the vehicle driven by Owens.

Lt. Rick Baker and Patrolmen Steve Meadors, Ken Proffitt and Jon Dean assisted at the scene.

Captain Wilson continues to investigate.
