Contracts have been awarded for road repaving projects in Knox and Whitley counties, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The local work is among the more than $27 million in asphalt rehabilitation projects planned in 45 counties.
The awarded projects span from Ballard County in the west to Boyd County in the east. They range in cost from $1.9 million for improvement of Dixie Highway (U.S. 31W) in Hardin County to $41,000 for improvement of Bloomfield Road (Hwy. 55) in Spencer County.
In all, nearly 60 asphalt rehab contracts were awarded in April with more to be awarded this year.
In Knox County, work will involve three sections of road including a 1.5-mile section of U.S. 25E (Corbin-Barbourville Road) from Hwy. 3439 to Hwy. 1304, a 1.2-mile section of U.S. 25E from Hwy. 2420 to Hwy. 1487 and a 0.4-mile section of Hwy. 2419 (College Street) from Hwy. 2420-KY 2421 to Hwy. 1487. Hinkle Contracting Company was awarded the contract for $888,856 and the completion date is Oct. 15.
In Whitley County, two contracts were awarded for a 5.4-mile section of Hwy. 92 from Harps Creek Road to the Bell County line. Elmo Greer and Sons LLC was awarded the contract for $473,582 and the completion date is Nov. 15. Also, two sections of road including a 2.1-mile section of Hwy. 92 from the McCreary County line to Jellico Creek Road and a 0.8-mile section of Hwy. 727 (4th and 5th Streets) from Hwy. 1259 to U.S. 25W. Again, Elmo Greer and Sons LLC was awarded the contract for $381,051 and the completion date is Nov. 15.
