28 file for Whitley Co. seats

Most candidates for nomination are Republican

Incumbent Republicans Kay Schwartz, Pat White Jr., and J. Andrew Croley are among 28 people who have so far filed for Whitley County offices.

Schwartz is seeking county clerk, White, judge-executive and Croley, coroner.

As of Monday, all candidates for nomination were Republicans except for non-partisans Edward Tye, running for Corbin city commissioner, Chet Riley and Laurel Jeffries West, running for Williamsburg city council and Roger “Roddy” Harrison running for Williamsburg mayor.

In other county offices, Paul K. Winchester is seeking county attorney, and Les Moses, jailer.

For constable, in the first district, Lonnie Foley and Troy “Tazz” Thomas are running.

The second district sees Keith Mays in the race. Will Leach is running in the third.

Jim Kubat, Andy Moses, Carl Neal, Charles Perkins, Bob Sulfridge and Bill Wilder are running in the fourth district constable race.

For Whitley magistrates, Roger Wells is running in the first district.

Third district candidates are James Billy Blaylock Sr., Jamie W. Fuson, Fred Lovitt, and Cheston “Joe” Moses.

In the fourth district, seeking the seat are, Glen Ayers, Mike Baird, Robert Robbie Brown and Rick Hayes.

Thus far five candidates for multi-county offices have filed.

For district judge in the 27th judicial district are W. “Skip” Hammons and Brandon C. Jones.

The 27th District embraces Laurel and Knox counties.

Also in the supreme court race is Daniel J.Venters, Somerset for the 3rd court district, which includes Adair, Bell, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Estill, Garrard, Green, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Lincoln, Marion, McCreary, Metcalfe, Monroe, Nelson, Rockcastle, Russell, Taylor, Washington Wayne and Whitley counties.

In the 82nd state representative district are Dewayne Bunch and Charles L. Siler.
