The son of a London police captain was last reported in stable condition following an accidental shooting Friday.
At 1:44 p.m. Friday, the Kentucky State Police received a report of an accidental shooting incident at the Crown Point Estates in Laurel County. The incident was initially being handled by the London City Police, but at approximately 4 p.m. the London City Police requested the investigation be taken over by the Kentucky State Police. At that time Detective Mark Allen was assigned as the lead investigator.
Detective Allen learned the victim is the 16-year-old son of London City Police Captain John Wright.
Wright and his son had just returned from a hunting trip and as Wright exited the driver’s side of the vehicle, his son exited the passenger’s side. Wright’s son was retrieving a rifle from the rear floor board area of the truck when it discharged, striking him in both legs. Wright’s son was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment.
KSP Detective Mark Allen is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by Detective Mike Bowling from the Kentucky State Police and officers from the London City Police Department.
