Candidates file in Laurel, Knox

On the first day of filing, 32 candidates for local offices in Knox and Laurel counties filed for the May 18 primary election.

In Laurel County, three incumbents have declared their intentions to keep their office, while in Knox County, 11 incumbents have said they’ll run again.

In Laurel County, Dean Johnson has filed for county clerk. Sheriff candidates so far are Larry Lewis and Jack Riley. Lonnie Owens is running for jailer and Jodi L. Albright for county attorney.

Eight have filed for three magistrate seats in Laurel. They are in first district, Joey Andes and Mike Samples. Second district candidates are Bily Karr and Danny Smith and in the fourth district, Michael Price, Steve Noe, Jeff Book and Joyce Brummett have filed.

For constable in the first district are Duane Hess and Tim May. In the fourth district, Ernie Lambert will be on the ballot and in the fifth district, Charlie Johnson and Carl R. Cheek have filed.

In Knox County, Mike Corey has filed for county clerk, J.M. Hall for judge-executive, and Charlie Greene Dixon Jr. for county attorney.

For sheriff, Gary Hammer Jackson and John Pickard have filed so far.

For Knox, jailer Larry D. Hammons has filed as has Mike Blevins for coroner.

For magistrate in the first district is Carson Gilbert and in district two is Keith Abner. Running for magistrate in district four is Pat McDonald and in district five is Guilio Cima.

In the district two constable race is Garrett Brown. Mike Bingham is running in the third district, Jimmy Dye is running in the fourth district and Carl Bolton in the fifth district.
