10 arrests, 24 hours

Laurel deputies make several drug busts in one day

By Carl Keith Greene / Staff Writer

In about a 24-hour period this week, Laurel County sheriff’s deputies arrested 10 people on trafficking in, making and selling methamphetamine, marijuana and other controlled substances.

In the early hours of Wednesday on Chapel Road in the Victory community, deputies Jerry Jones and Robert Mitchell arrested Sherrie Combs and Crystal Doan on drug charges.

Combs, 40, of Barbourville, was charged with making meth, unlawful possession of a meth precursor and on an existing warrant charging two counts of theft by deception.

Doan, 35, of East Bernstadt, was also charged with making meth and possessing a precursor.

Laurel’s public safety director assisted in the cleanup and disassembly of the laboratory.

On Wednesday morning, eight alleged drug dealers were rounded up mostly in the southern part of the county.

The offenses range from meth sales to marijuana growing.

Victims of the roundup include Jason C. Simpson, 27, charged with selling meth and James D. Miller, 28, charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in controlled substances. Both are from Sweet Hollow Road.

Robin Zelenka, 27, of Hall Street in Corbin, was charged with three counts of trafficking in meth.

Robert J. Kemp, 39, of Rolling Hills Road in London, was charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Stephanie Broyles, 29, of Davenport Lane in Lily, was charged with one count of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Sara L. Campbell, 42, of Fields Road in Corbin, was charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Anthony D. Lonngworth, 37, of Hightop Road in London, was charged with cultivating marijuana and James R. Faulkner, 25, of Huddleston Road in Williamsburg was charged with one count of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Deputies are still seeking four more people who have active warrants charging them with trafficking in controlled substances.
