The 2008 Laurel County Homecoming Festival is set to begin today and run through Sunday.
Beginning today at 8 a.m., an outdoor flea market will be open at Levi Jackson. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, there will be a free kick-off concert at the Levi Jackson Amphitheater with the Crabb Family Revival performing.
Friday, the outdoor flea market will again open at 8 a.m. The Laurel County Homecoming parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. in downtown London. At 8:30 p.m., there will be a “Dancin’ in the Streets” street dance in the park.
Again Saturday, the flea market opens at 8 a.m. Also at 8 a.m., a skate race will be held, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., a pet parade will take place, with registration at 9:45 a.m.
At noon Saturday, there will be a “Fittest Kid in the County” event, with running, jumping, throwing and hula hooping. At 1 p.m., there will be a Guitar Hero tournament and at 2 p.m. a cornhole tournament will be held for ages 5 and up.
At 8 p.m. Saturday, the Homecoming Pageant will take place, with two divisions. First will be the teen pageant for ages 13-16, in which the winner will receive a $500 scholarship. The miss pageant, for ages 17-21, will follow that, with the winner receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
From 1-5 p.m. Sunday, there will be gospel singing in the park.
Daily events will include Tastes of London, trolley rides, a history tour, balloon art, inflatables, a scavenger hunt and face painting.
The homecoming is celebrating 73 years this year. All activities are free.
