Corbin Main Street hoping to find tall Christmas tree

Most people are still heading to beaches and soaking up the last weeks of summer before school starts back and fall arrives; but Main Street Manager Sharae Myers is thinking of another season entirely, one filled with cold weather and lots of decorations.

Myers is searching for a Main Street Christmas tree, one that will be the talk of the town, and could rival the buildings it sits next to in any height competition.

She is asking anyone in Corbin and the surrounding communities to find their giving spirit a few months early and donate a live 20- to 30-foot pine tree that the city can use for the Corbin Main Street Christmas tree.

“A lot of people don’t like having a tree that size cut down, but we’re hoping there will be someone willing to donate,” Myers said. She said the tree can be donated by someone who is willing to give it from their own property.

Myers said she wants a Christmas display in Nibroc park that will be just as good as the one Barbourville had last year.

Barbourville had a large Rockefeller Plaza-like tree on their Main Street last year, and Myers thinks Corbin can do the same, if not better.

She said she is starting to ask for the tree now so that she, along with everyone else working on Main Street programs, can plan accordingly and have everything ready to set up when the Christmas season is near.

“The main item on the Christmas wish list for downtown is a 20 to 30 ft. tree,” Myers said.
