Doctor killed by own gun

Times-Tribune Staff Report

Lexington police say a doctor has been shot and killed with his own gun after a conflict that had been brewing for a month.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Rodney M. Mann, 45, of Lexington, was pronounced dead Sunday after the shooting in the driveway of a rural Clark County home that belonged to the alleged shooter, Charles B. Steppe. Police say Steppe wrestled the gun away from Mann, who brought two guns and a knife to the scene.

Steppe called 911 and told the operator he had shot someone. He has not been arrested. State police say the case will be presented to a Clark County grand jury.

Trooper Chris Lanham said the feud likely began a month ago in Lexington at a Sam’s Club parking lot when Mann accused Steppe of keying his Acura.

Mann was a graduate of Knox Central High School and was the Medical Director of the Thoroughbred Asthma and Allergy Center in Lexington and at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.
