A Barbourville man was shot late Tuesday evening at his residence on Mays Street, said Barbourville Police Detective Mike Broughton.
Michael Mills was at his home on Mays Street with his ex-wife when he was shot in the chest. Mills’ ex-wife attempted to drive him to the hospital, when she got stuck in traffic, Broughton said.
At that point, she exited her vehicle and tried to “summon aid” for Mills. Emergency personnel were called and arrived on the scene and determined Mills needed to be flown out to receive medical attention, said Broughton.
Mills was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
No charges have been filed, but a gun-shot residue forensic test was completed on both Mills and his ex-wife and has been sent to the Kentucky State Police crime lab to be analyzed.
Broughton said he thinks even after the test that no charges will be filed.
The investigation into the shooting is still open with the Barbourville Police Department.
