Two adults, one youth arrested on drug charges

Times-Tribune Staff Report

Williamsburg police Thursday caught two adults and a young person with drugs and drug paraphernalia at the Hometown BP gas station at exit 11 off I-75.

Shawn Jackson of the Williamsburg police said on Monday authorities were notified by persons inside the service station that something odd was going on with the people in a vehicle outside.

They said occupants of the car had come into and exited the station several times and one of them had asked for a small sheet of aluminum foil.

When Jackson and Police Chief Wayne Bird arrived, the vehicle was leaving the gas station.

They stopped it and when they approached, the occupants seemed nervous, Jackson said.

It appeared that the two passengers in the car were attempting to hide something, said Jackson.

With the car stopped and the occupants out of the vehicle the officers spotted something on the front seat.

Jackson said it was green and leafy and a pipe was near it.

A search of the vehicle by a drug dog found what was believed to be marijuana and a powdery substance that might have been ecstasy, said Jackson.

A total of more than $1,200 in cash was found in the car as well as ecstasy in packages that Jackson said could have been for resale.

The occupants told Jackson they had been to a rave club the night before, Jackson said.

All were arrested. The driver was taken to the juvenile detention center in Breathitt County, charged with possession of marijuana, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.

The other two, Maury Galaher, of Knoxville, and Matt Schweitzer, of Neenah, Wis., both 18, were charged with possession of marijuana, trafficking in a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and unlawful transaction with a minor.

They were taken to the Whitley County jail.
