Two more arraigned in drug conspiracy

Two more members of an alleged 10-person conspiracy to make and sell methamphetamine in Laurel and Knox counties have been arraigned in U.S. District Court in London.

Cleve D. Smith and Mark E. Smith were arraigned Tuesday.

The trial, originally set for next Monday, has been reset for Oct. 19.

A total of eight have been arraigned at this point, and one of those, Sandy Mills, 23, entered a guilty plea on May 20 on a charge of conspiring to make meth. She is set to be sentenced on Sept. 3.

Two of the ten indicted, Edgar Bowling and Roger Goley, have yet to be arraigned.

Including Cleve and Mark Smith, the seven already set for trial are Kenneth Adams, Edward Wagers, Rodney Bishop, Charles Jones and Jordan Smith.

The indictment alleges that the conspiracy covered the years 2007 and 2008. During that time, it charges that the alleged conspirators made and sold meth in Laurel and Knox counties “and elsewhere.”

It also charges that they possessed meth and equipment to make it, and they had ingredients to make it on specific times and dates.

According to the indictment, Mark Smith “controlled” a camper in a wooded area off KY 229 in Knox County where meth was made, stored, distributed or used.

Bishop, Bowling, Cleve Smith and Wagers also face various gun charges.

The group together faces millions of dollars in fines and up to life in prison for some of the charges.
