A lightning strike knocked power out in parts of Williamsburg Wednesday morning.
A representative from Kentucky Utilities said a lightening strike hit an electric pole and burned the insulation on the power line. The problem was discovered and fixed by Kentucky Utilities crews and power was restored around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The utilities representative said power was out for approximately an hour and a half.
One of the buildings affected by the outage was Williamsburg City School.
Williamsburg Independent School District Superintendent Dennis Byrd said thanks to numerous drills that are a normal part of the school year, classes were relatively uninterrupted by the outage.
“We’ve got a good staff here, so it wasn’t a big deal. There was, though a very good response from the [Whitley County] emergency management people,” Byrd said.
