Inmate dies at Whitley jail

The Whitley County Coroner’s Office is investigating an inmate’s death that occurred Friday at the Whitley County Detention Center.
Ralph Martin Terry, 34, of Jellico, Tenn., was booked at the detention center at 4:49 p.m. Friday. According to a press release from the Whitley County coroner, Terry was found unresponsive at about 10:35 p.m. during a routine check. Attempts by Whitley County EMS to revive Terry were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead by Chief Deputy Coroner Jerry W. Croley at 11:20 p.m.
Terry’s body was taken to the Kentucky State Medical Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
Kentucky State Police Detective Colan Harrell, Williamsburg Police Officer Mike Taylor, and Whitley County Jailer Ken Mobley are assisting the coroner’s office in the continuing investigation.
