Members of the Corbin Police Department arrested a Cawood man after an alleged altercation and knife assault took place at the Mountain View Lodge in Corbin late Tuesday night.
“We got the initial call of two guys fighting up there,” said Sgt. William Rose of the Corbin Police Department.
When police arrived at around 11:30 p.m., they found hotel occupant Eddie Barker at the front desk with a 6-inch long, 1-inch deep cut in his arm. Barker told police he had been attacked with a knife by another occupant, Wayne Middleton.
Managers of the hotel advised police Middleton had ran out of the building and into the woods located behind the hotel following the alleged attack.
After an approximate 40-minute search, authorities found Middleton, 34, in the woods. He was arrested without incident a little after midnight Wednesday by Sgt. Shannon Jones and Sgt. Rose and charged with first-degree assault.
Rose said Barker was on the way to the hospital to receive stitches for his wound at last check.
The reason the two men were allegedly fighting has yet to be determined and the investigation is continuing by Rose. Also assisting at the scene was Cpl. Glenn Taylor of the Corbin Police Department and Deputies Dennis Foley and Ronnie Bowling of the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office.
