A Thursday afternoon wreck on KY 192 in front of the London Country Club has claimed the life of a London teenager.
According to a release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, a Mitsubishi driven by Miranda Knowles of London was traveling east on KY 192 when it entered the oncoming lane and struck a vehicle driven by Donald Burgin, also of London, at around 2:54 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Courtney Carter, 19, was extricated from Knowles’ vehicle by the Laurel County Rescue Squad and London Fire Department.
Carter was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington where she later died of her injuries.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Department deputies Sgt. Greg Poynter and Ernest Rudder responded to the scene where they were assisted by the London Police Department.
Detective Richard Dalrymple, accident reconstructionist for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, is investigating the incident.
Police say alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision and criminal charges could be filed.
