Times-Tribune Staff Report
Three people were transported to the hospital after witnesses say a 77-year-old man failed to stop at a red light near Baptist Regional Medical Center causing a four-vehicle wreck.
Corbin Police Department Captain Tim Helton said witnesses reported that Joseph Popejoy, 77, failed to stop at a red light at the corner of Trillum Way and Falls Highway.
Popejoy’s vehicle collided with a 2006 Impala carrying Teri Petery, 44, and two other passengers. Petery was taken to St. Joseph, London as was a 15-year-old passenger. Helton said Petery requested to be taken to St. Joseph hospital.
The collision caused a chain-reaction which included two other cars — a Tahoe SUV and an AT&T service vehicle. No one was injured in the SUV or AT&T vehicle.
Conditions for Petery and the 15-year-old passenger could not be confirmed as of press time.
Popejoy was taken to BRMC where he was listed in stable condition.
Helton said no criminal charges are suspected in connection to the incident.
