The 20-year sentence of Rosalee Karr, who pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter earlier this month for involvement in the shooting death of her husband, was upheld in Laurel County Circuit Court Monday.
At the time of her guilty plea, Karr received a recommended sentence of 10 years after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree manslaughter. That charge was amended from a murder charge. The sentence was enhanced 10 more years, however, after Karr also pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree persistent felony offender due to a previous conviction for manufacturing methamphetamine.
She was also sentenced to 10 years by pleading guilty to the charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Her sentences are to be served concurrently and, in all, Karr faces 20 years in prison.
Karr was charged with the June 2007 murder of her husband, David Karr, the son of Laurel County Industrial Authority director Dennis Karr and grandson of former Laurel County Judge-Executive Ledford Karr.
According to previous police reports, authorities responded to a call from Rosalee Karr at around 12:10 a.m. on June 24, 2007. David Karr was pronounced dead at around 1:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph London, formerly Marymount Hospital after sustaining a 9mm gunshot wound to the stomach.
Karr told police that she and her husband had been drinking and arguing earlier that day. She said David Karr allegedly turned the gun on himself and told her to pull the trigger, and she did.
She told police she did not believe the gun to be loaded.
Karr was indicted for murder in August 2007.
